One day a Guinea Pig doing some dry cleaning while eating short bread saw a firefly writing in it's law dictionary a new definition for catgut with his lead pencil. He proceeded to squish the firefly....

the odd one: -----> 1

... firefly, only one with f's and no a's

Last Sunday night, I was consulting my law dicionary while my Ginea Pig was eating a piece of shortbread. When my lead pecil broke, I looked out the window and saw a firefly chasing a shooting star, and I remembered I forgot to pick up my drycleaning.

This was a true story!...sort of.
The odd word is catgut, you won't find that in my study room

Martini the guinea pig crossed great distances on her shooting star as she made her way to Ajax, the Castle made of Shortbread - where her long-sought dry cleaning awaited her - and contemplated the nature of the Mystical Classic Lead Pencil now in her possession as she did so.
"How the ____ does catgut figure into the equation?" she wondered aloud.
A firefly gliding alongside her gaped in horror. "You said a swear!" it remarked, "You're going to jail!"
"You ___, it isn't against the law to say '____' under any circumstances," she replied, "Here, let me show you," and produced her pocket law dictionary to demonstrate, whereupon she realised that it only defined things and didn't actually illustrate the details of any existing laws.
So she garrotted him in the nearest alley.
Martini is still at large.

When I looked at the list, what immediately came to mind was "firefly" because it's the only one without an 'a.' But then I thought "No, that's too lame. It's gotta be something better than that."

While writing lead pencil notes in my law dictionary, I saw a shooting star. There'll be shortbread for me and catgut for my guinea pig, "Firefly", tonight!

Firefly contains letters that are not included in any of the other words, but "dry cleaning" is the first term that breaks the alternating cycle between two word terms and one word terms.

Break out your Lead Pencil and answer this: Firefly is to Guinea pig as Shortbread is to

A) Catgut
B) Law dictionary
C) Dry Cleaning
D) None of the above

A) Catgut is intriguing as both shortbread and catgut can be eaten, but I think that it is D) None of the above.

Vowels and consonants come and go, and the series of two-word, one-word is maintained, but one difference remains-

There is only one linking conjunction- and!

Well, if it is the conjuction "and" then I have a new story...

While writing lead pencil notes in my law dictionary, I saw a shooting star. There'll be dry shortbread for me and catgut for my guinea pig, "Firefly", tonight!

Lucius, the guinea pig sat by the window trying to study from his law dictionary. Distracted by shooting star he felt a spark of creativity and decided to make himself an outfit of catgut. Drawing the plans with his lead pencil he relized his creation would need dry cleaning. After hours of alterations it was finally complete and he was able to wear it out that night. Working so hard to mpress his date he was hungry for dinner, where they ate shortbread crumbs and drank tea untill the sun came up. Made a wish on a firefly. And lived happily ever after.

the odd one out is dry cleaning! a guinea pig is not a pig, catgut is not a cat's guts, shooting stars aren't stars (they are meteoroids burning up in our atmosphere), shortbread is not short bread, a lead pencil doesn't contain lead (it contains graphite), a firefly has nothing to do with fire, a law dictionary isn't defining words, but with dry cleaning, your clothes are cleaned without getting wet.

It has to be dry cleaning because it is the only verb in the list wwhile the others are nouns. OH YEAH! I am good.

Actually dry cleaning is a noun as well. Dry clean is the verb.. but dry cleaning is a noun (hey.. look in a dictionary if you question).

Actually, dry cleaning does wet your clothes, but not with water.

The cleaning is done with chemicals, and clothes are cleaned without water, hence "dry" cleaning.

Just my two cents.

Actually, clothes do get wet during the dry cleaning process. The deal is, they are wetted with chemicals, not water, hence "dry" cleaning!

i thought it was lead pencil because it's the only one that doesnt need both words to have the same meaning

I think the answer is Law Dictionary - all the others have terms in them describing origin or content that aren't accurate - e.g. lead pencil - has graphite, not lead.

TOP STORY
-----------------------------------
While writing lead pencil notes in my law dictionary, I saw a shooting star. There'll be shortbread for me and catgut for my guinea pig, "Firefly", tonight!
- Kristen

ANSWER : LAW DICTIONARY
-----------------------------------
All the words are misnomers except the law dictionary

-Guinea pig - not a pig (but rat)
-catgut - not made from cat (from sheeps)
-shooting star - not a star (meteor)
-shortbread - not bread (a cookie)
-lead pencil - not lead (from graphite)
-firefly - not a fly (bug)
-dry cleaning - not dry (uses a liquid not water though)

law dictionary IS A DICTIONARY of terms used in LAW

-----------------------------------
Ofcourse there can be other logical correct ways to find out the odd one.

dillon

he was the first to get the correct relation (logically) but instead of Law dictionary he chose dry cleaning

with an equally reasonable explaination

kudos

Lead pencil because the others all exist but the lead pencil doesnt exist any more, they use graphite instead

I believe the answer could be several differe t ones. As far as the story.........
The Guinea pig fell off a shooting star, saw a firefly, found a lead pencil, baked shortbread, studied law dictonary, all in time for his ddry cleaning
