about this series. Can you tell me, what would be the next number ?
12, 14, 15, 20
and what is the value of x, if 1+x = b, b+x = c, c+x=d and d+x = 89

The next number is 22, with the second number larger than the first.
To get then next number in the series, you add the larger number to the total number that you have. i.e., you add 2 to twelve to get 14, add 1 to 14 to get 15, and so on.
The larger number alternates between the second and first position.

14 + 1 = 14
15 + 5 = 20
20 + 2 = 22
the last two anonymous guys got it. The next number in the series plus the x eqation both equal 22.
the answer is 22 for both. for 2nd part:
1+x=b => (1+x)+x = c =>
(1+2x)+x = d =>
(1+3x) +x = 89
4x = 88
x = 22

I was thinking the answer for the first one was 27, because it seemed that you are adding prime numbers to the series. But I was thinking 22 also worked and it makes more sense since it is the answer for the second part of the teaser. So 22

well, the next number is 22.
after that...
1+22=23(1+x=b)
23+22=45(b+x=c)
45+22=67(c+x=d)
67+22=89(d+x=89)
22 is the next number.

actually cait has it wrong... it would be
22 (second), 24 (first), 26 (second), 32 (first), 35 (second)... etc etc and the place listen in the parenthesis is which one is the bigger number.
