Touchy billiard balls
A billiard ball can at most touch two other billiard balls in a single dimension. How many billiard balls a single billiard ball (no pun intended) can touch in two dimension and three dimensions ?
If you don't know what a billiard ball is, can you strike out 9 letters to reveal a short "phrase"

OK...my answers are:
2 dimensions = 6 balls
3 dimensions = 9 balls
But I had to remove 11 leters to reveal "A SHORT PHRASE" so I hope this is correct...is it?
no....in the question it says in 1 dimension, the ball could hit 2 other billiard balls. concluding a whopping 2 balls touched per dimension. not three balls touched in all....just "how many balls can the first ball touch" not "are being touched" so.
first=2
second=4
and tird=6
In 2 dimensions it's 6
In 3 dimensions it's 12 (6 around, 3 on top, and 3 on the bottom)
It's important to note however that in 1 dimension, the "ball" would be a line. In 2 dimensions it would be a circle, and in 3 dimensions it would be a sphere.
In 4 dimensions, it would be a hypersphere, and it could touch 24 other hyperspheres.
Imagine playing billiards in 4 dimensions!

Judy, I think you'll find you have to remove 11 letters if you want to remove "nine letters:"
ASHORTPHRASE
NINELETTERS
Ah crap...I was not thinking about the three underneath...I was seeing the ball sitting on the table with the others around and above it.
And I really can't believe that if I could figure out "A Short Phrase", I couldn't figure out "Nine Letters".
I may not have the winning answer for this question, but I do get the big DUH award! ;-D
The answer is;
1 dimension-2
2 dimension-4
3 dimension-6
and if you take "NINELETTERS" Away from ANSIHNELOERTPTHTREARSES you get A SHORT PHRASE
