It is 1/4th of the space taken by the movement of the hour hand between hours which is 360 degrees divided by 12 hours or 30 degrees. 1/4 of 30 degrees is 7 1/2 degrees.

every minute that passes the distance between the two hands increases by 5.5 degrees. At 3:15, 195 minutes have passed since 0:00, so thats 1072.5 degrees, mod that by 360 and you get 352.5, or 7.5 degrees. Katya got it.

I don't get it. Looking at the clock right now, at 3:15, wouldn't the hour and minute hand be right on top of each other? I'm inclined to agree with the first dude, although it does seem just a bit too simple.

I agree with katya. For the ones that answered 0 degrees; if that was truely the answer, it would mean that the hour hand did not move with the minute hand. With that case, the time would always be 3:someting and we wouldn't even know what 4:00 is.

there are 5 increments between when the clock passes bewteen hours. ie 15-16, 16-17,17-18,18-19,19-20. So in 60 mins to go one tick of the hour hand it takes 60/5 or 12 mins. but this is asking 15. so 5 degrees /12 is .41666 so that is how long it moves in 1 min so multiply by 3 and u get 1.25. add that to the initial 5 degrees and u get 6.25 degrees

(360/12)/4= 7.5 degrees.

The angle between the minute and hour hands, at three o'clock, is ninety degrees. At first thought, one might think that, at three-fifteen, the angle would be zero. That would not be correct though because the hour hand advances toward the next hour with every tick of the minute hand. The minute hand advances six degrees each minute, and the hour hand advances thirty degrees every hour.

Since fifteen past is one-quarter of an hour, divide thirty degrees (distance hour hand travels in one hour) by 4 (four quarters in an hour) to reach 7.5 degrees (distance traveled in fifteen minutes).

The angle is 7.5 degrees

Just a note on etiquette for those of you new to the game:
Generally, we either post our work [for mathematical/logic problems] followed by a hypothesis or simply post the hypothesis on its own. If you feel the need to preface an answer, please preface it with the phrase "I think," but PLEASE, PLEASE do not preface answers with "The answer is" ESPECIALLY when that "answer" is completely incorrect.

Thank You

Many have posted the answer already, so there's really no point in me repeating it.
Speaking of etiquette, when is Rajesh going to start posting the answers again? Perhaps he poses these questions to us with no real answer in mind?

For the anonymous guy above, each of the question posted have atleast one definite and correct answer.

A number of them though can have multiple creative and correct answers.

I was soooooo hoping that Raj prefaced his answer with "The answer is...". I suppose "ANSWER" is good enough. Perhaps Daniel, your rules are and should remain your own?

It is asking for the angle between the two hands so it would be 360 degrees less the 7.5 degrees making it 352.5 degrees!!!! GO ME!
7.5 degrees is degrees of the space being used by the hands.
