I think the feathers would weigh more because in order to place 1LB of feathers on any normal scale, they would have to be contained, and the container that holds the feathers would have to be much larger than the one holding the gold. Much larger and hence, heavier...assuming they are made of the same material. Ok ok, they are equal. (sigh)
It's not asking for 1 TROY pound of gold and 1 avoirdupois pound of lead, it's asking for 1 standard pound. You'll notice one of the labels for it is "trickofmind". They are the same.
i suppose the simplest answer would be they both weigh the same. but the above is correct, lead and gold lbs are measured slightly different, so taking into consideration the value of gold compared to lead (although try telling that to the grntlemen that removed my lead flushing the other day...) A lb of lead weighs more. but the semantics within the question merely points to the simple answer.

I hate to say it, but I've gotten tricked by this one before - A pound of gold weighs less than the lead. Because troy is explicitly specified doesn't mean its not implied. It's a trick... get it?
ANSWER - GOLD ------------------------ Gold measured in TROY pounds which is 373.24 grams which is less than a normal pound (453.59 grams) in which a Lead is measured
So 1 pound of gold means 373.24 grams of gold and not 453.59 grams

A pound of feathers weighed on the moon far outweighs any pound of lead or gold weighed on Earth, although it's difficult to prove that in a weightless state.

Where did the feathers come from ?
well if they are both 1 LB then they wiegh the same(p.s that is such an old trick)
one pound is not one pound
lead is measured in standard pounds
gold is measured in (I believe it is spelled) avoirdupois pounds
hence lead weighs more
change and addendum to previous post
gold measued in TROY pounds 373.24grams
lead measured in avoirdupois pounds is 453.59 grams
Could it not be £1 of gold and £1 of lead?
a pond of lead weighs more than a pound of gold as
gold measued in TROY pounds 373.24grams
&
lead measured in avoirdupois pounds is 453.59 grams
£1 of gold is .00251 lbs
£1 of lead is 1.79 lbs
as of 12/20/2007

The standard measurement of gold is ALWAYS in troy ounces.
According to wikipedia there are 12 troy ounces to a pound.
Therefore, a pound of gold weighs less than a pound of lead. (or feathers)

a gold pound is 12 oz.
while what ever the other thing is weighed in the standered 16 oz to lb.
first what is the scale your measuring according to????.
not knowing it there can be more than an answer.
THE Y BOTH WAY THE SAME! DEAL WITH IT!!!!
a lb. of gold is 16 oz. a lb. of lead is 16 oz.
THEY WHEIGH THE SAME
A pound is a pound any way you shake it!
a pound is a pound isn't it

Well if you are using the same scale to measure the pound of each, then they would weigh the same REGARDLESS OF WHAT STANDARD IS USUALLY USED.
