non cause all you have to do is open the bag and look in there to c that was a little too ez man
Depends on the mix of the third bag if its a 50/50 mix then you will have to take out half the bag and then one more (but in all probability it you will find out before you get to that mark)
If you have a mix of 1/3 to 2/3 its basically the same you take out 1/3 of the bag plus one
After you feel the bag from the outside you should be able to determine which is which, because where I come from apples do not feel like oranges.
as zack said, if its a 50/50 split, then you need to take out half plus one, though you will probably be able to stop before that...
as for the 1/3 to 2/3, i disagree.. i think that you would have to pull out 2/3 +1 rather than 1/3.. becuase what if the 1/3 you puled out is all of the kind thats 2/3
yes val is right i made a mistakes its 2/3 + 1 rather than 1/3 + 1 thanks for spotting that
Only 1. Taken from the bag marked Mixed.
It says that all 3 bags are mislabeled, which means none of them are correct. If you take 1 from the bag labeled "Mixed", then you know which bag that is. If it was an apple, then the bag marked "Apples", contains oranges. If it was an orange, then the bag makred "Orainges" is apples.
Only 2 possiblities can occur..
BAG Apple contains Oranges
BAG Oranges contains Mixed
BAG Mixed contains Apples
or
BAG Oranges contains Apples
BAG Apples contains Mixed
BAG Mixed contains Oranges
By taking 1 fruit from the bag marked Mixed, you can tell which scenarios it is above. Then you know what the other two bags contain.
-Euclid's Brother
the last anonymous is right.
The bags all being mislabeled is the key.
pwned! by Euclid's Brother!
Yeah good job Euclid's brother but I've hear this trick before it is simple.....
Atleast 2 fruit and up to half the bag + 1.
Ok, It really depends on how lucky one is. For instance, say BAG 1 is pulled and its an Apple that means either it is an apple or mixed bag, so pull another if its an orange then you know the mixed bag. Therefore, the quickest solution to the puzzle would be to draw three fruit.
Bravo Euclid's Brother!
I totally dismissed the mislabeling of the bags.

You have to take out 9, 3 from each bag to be sure, one bad will have 3 apples, another bag 3 oranges, and the last either 2 apples and one orange or 2 oranges and one apple

All of you anonymous people stop being stupid and read the comments before you post an answer
And Euclid's brother your different scenario's are wrong; due to the fact of ordering your answer; stop confusing the stupid people that post
if you take on from mixed bag then you still don't know which of the bags marked oranges and apples is the mixed one, so take one from orange bag if it is an orange then it's the mixed because it can't be just oranges like it says so then you know the mixed bag contains apples and the apples bag contains oranges.
same as if you take from the bag marked apples. If it has apples then it is mixed.
so the bag marked oranges contains apples and the mixed bag contains apples.
so only 1 if you are lucky.
Sherry said "if you take on from mixed bag then you still don't know which of the bags marked oranges and apples is the mixed one" - but that is incorrect.
If you take one from the bag marked mixed you know that this bag contains all one type of fruit and as all of the bags are mis-labelled the mixed one can't be the one labelled with fruit you are holding as if it was only two of the bags could be mis-labelled.
Therefore if you are holding an apple the mixed bag is the one labelled oranges and vice versa.
Initially I thought the catch was them writing "apples" as "Apple's". But after reading the comments, Euclid's Brother answer makes complete sense.
guys, stop arguing. it is only 1 wheather you're lucky or not.take one from the "mixed" bag and if it's an apple then its the apple bag and if it an orange it's an orange bag, since its labled mixed it cant be mixed.
if it is an apple it also means the "orange" bag is not orande or apple, so it's mixed and the ''apple'' is orange.
if it is the orande then it's the other way round

It says they are mislabled, so the labels could read 'Goats' 'Bananas' 'Cheese'.
What would you do then?
Just Dump The third bag out to see what it is
none just open the bag to see whats inside
I agree with what "irishcaroline" said- you dont have to take any of the apples and oranges out of the bags. You just have to open the bags and look in them.
"Peji"- had another valid point, the text does not say what the bags are labled as...
you need to take out 4. Get one g=bag first and if you get two of the same (apple or oranges) assume it is the one of apples or oranges, same with the second bag. If in one of the tries you get two different fruits... then is the one mix. 4 tries.
I think you'll need to take out 3 in order to get to a conclusion.
first takeout 1 from each bag
a o o
or
o a a
the odd one out
then grab one fruit from remaining bags
o o or o a
a o or a a
continue until one bag is odd
least amount = 3 + 2x
ANSWER = 1 from the mixed bag
-----------------------
DETAILS
-----------------------
Take one fruit from the bag labeled Mixed (apples and Oranges)
Two results
1. The fruit is Apple (the bag label should be Apple, because the bag is mislabeled )
The bag labelled Oranges cannot have oranges (mislabeled) and it cannot have only apple so it has to be "Mixed"
So the bag labelled Apple is the Oranges and the bag labelled
oranges is the "Mixed"
2. The fruit is Orange (the bag label should be Orange, because the bag is mislabeled)
The bag labelled Apple cannot have Apples (mislabeled) and it cannot have only oranges so it has to be "Mixed"
So the bag labelled Oranges is the Apples one and the bag labelled oranges is the "Mixed"
GOT RIGHT
