So, a mneumonic device is a device used to help you remember something, The word mnemonic is derived from the Ancient Greek word μνημονικός mnemonikos ("of memory") and is related to Mnemosyne ("remembrance"), the name of the goddess of memory in Greek mythology. Both of these words refer back to μνημα mnema ("remembrance").[1] The first known reference to mnemonics is the method of loci described in Cicero's De Oratore.

The major assumption is that there are two sorts of memory: the "natural" memory and the "artificial" memory. The former is inborn, and is the one that everyone uses every day. The artificial memory is one that is trained through learning and practicing a variety of mnemonic techniques. The latter can be used to perform feats of memory that are quite extraordinary, impossible to carry out using the natural memory alone.

But i have no i dead what this one means.....

The number of letters per word correspond to a digit of PI. The first word has 3 letters, the second 1 letter, the third 4 letters (and so on) which give you 3.14 (and so on).

hello????the first word is No and it has 2 letters, next is an exclamation point which is 1 character, then you have a 3 letter word and so on....how the hell do you get pi? when No ! is the first word of the answer

What does PI have to do with remembering coffee? I'm still somewhat lost.

Count the number of letters in each word to tell you what the next digit of PI is:

3.1415926 = may I have a large container of coffee

3.1415926 = now I even I would celebrate is enough (grammar problems, but works if you can remember it).

I posted the cryptic "PI" originally because I don't like ruining the fun for everyone by just blurting out the answer where a hint will suffice.

I remembered PI to 100 places the old fashioned way...by just repeating them over and over in groups until I got it. A friend of mine knew it to 400 places, but I gave up trying to catch him. I still remember it, though, 30 years later.

And if you think that's bad, the record is 83,431 digits by Akira Haraguchi!

Another guy wrote an entire poem:

Poe, E.
Near a Raven

Midnights so dreary, tired and weary.
Silently pondering volumes extolling all by-now obsolete lore.
During my rather long nap - the weirdest tap!
An ominous vibrating sound disturbing my chamber's antedoor.
"This", I whispered quietly, "I ignore"
...

...it continues for quite some time.

I am confused though, No, is also in italics, or at least it looks like it to me, so how do you know where to start?

ooooo now i get it

"No" was in answer to Alice's comment, not what Bob was suggesting as an alternative memory aid.

And it only works if you start with "now", so regardless of the poor grammar and nonsense sentance, it's what was intended by the puzzle. Bob could also be saying that 3.14159 "is enough" digits to remember.

which is interesting because "is enough" takes care of the following 2 and 6

yea so steve,
what does PI have to do with this sentance
there is more than 8 #s in PI
and thats like sayin u can do that to any sentance and make it into somthing

this has nothing to do with PI

It has to do with remembering PI, not PI itself. It's a "Mnemonics Mystery" :)

ANSWER Pi
--------------
The Mnemonics were used for Pi

may(3) I(1) have(4) a(1) large(5) container(9) of(2) coffee(6)

When bob said no
now(3) I(1) even(4) I(1) would(5) celebrate (9)
is enough

he referred to the 5 places after decimal which should be enough

GOT RIGHT
