Another Charlotte's Adventure

Joy is stuck on a middle of the wall of a room, one foot below the ceiling. Charlotte is in the middle of the opposite wall, a foot above the floor. What is the shortest path Charlotte can take to save his baby, if the room is 12 X 30 foot with a 12 foot ceiling ?

* Joy is the name of Charlotte's baby who is a barn spider, here is an old adventure

Assuming they are stuck in the middle of the 30' wall and he must stay on a surface (no jumping), then 24 feet.

11 feet up, 12 feet across and 1 foot down

or

1 foot down, 12 feet across and 11 feet up.

eitherway, it's the same..

Yeah, well there is gonna be jumping so I suggest Charlotte start by going down, also should the baby fall you want want be below them so you have a chance to make the saving grab. Assuming very little wind in the room I'm going 23.78'. But you know that all depends on the breed of spider.

It doesn't matter which wall the spiders are on (either 30' wall or 12' wall). The distance is the same.

The horizontal distance between them is 42'. The vertical distance between them is 10'. A triangle with sides of 42' and 10' has a hypotenuse of 43.174'

Therefore the shortest distance between the spiders is 43.174'

Ross Fraser.
