If each batter swings at the first pitch and gets out, then 27

15 if the home team is ahead after 5 1/2 innings and it starts to rain

The visiting team could throw 25 pitches, one per inning for inning 1-8 and giving up one pitch as a homerun to allow the home team to win by a final score of 1-0.

11, like Scott said it has to go 5 1/2 innings, so you are looking at 11 triple plays grounders, the batter get on base for the triple plays by bases on balls, umpire can call a ball if they think the pitcher is taking too long to make a pitch (this would never happen 92 times in a game though)

As Adam said, if you are the visiting team and you throw a pitch and they hit the ball every time and you catch it everytime, then it is 3 throws in one inning. Making it 24 throws in 8 innings, cause if the home team is leading after the first half of the the 9th inning then they don't go back up to bat...
However, if they got out at every pitch then they obviously made no runs. Thus the answer is 25, meaning the home team had to make a home run at some point in the game.

you guys are all dumb, i play baseball, the least amount of pitches one Major League team can throw in a game is 24, that is assuming they are the home team, and they are ahead after the top of the ninth inning

trick question... in baseball there is a " Mercy rule " this rule varies depending on the level at which you play... i have a link where there was a 4 inning game... and in this cae the minimum a team would have to throw would be 12
the link will be click able through my name

The fewest number of piches that can be thrown by one team in an inning is 2. The first batter swings at the first pitch and gets out. The third batter then comes up and swings at the first pitch and gets out. Then they realize that the team batted out of order and the batter that was skipped is called out too. 3 outs. So, if the home team wins after 5.5 innings due to weather, whey will only have to pitch 6 times (they would pitch in the top of the 5th) --> 12 pitches. In a 9-inning game, they would have to pitch 9 times --> 18 pitches.

There is no Mercy Rule in Major League Baseball.

The answer is 0.
By MLB rules, if a balk is committed with no runners on base, a ball is called. If a pitcher balked 4 times, the batter would be walked without throwing a single pitch. Once the man is on first, the pitcher picks him off before throwing any pitches to the next batter. Repeat this process as many times as necessary whether there's a rain-out or extra innings.
By the way, if the pitcher doesn't pick off the runner and he is either balked or steals his way home, it's possible for a pitcher to LOSE a game while pitching all 9 innings and not throwing a single pitch.

It is 25, that is if the game goes exactly 9 inings, then you are the visiting pitcher that loses. so if the pitch loses the game then he pitches only 8 inings times that by 3 pitches that the batter gets out + 1 for a homerun inorder for the game to ed at the ninth ining. so 24+1=25

First off I forgot about the 5.5 inning rule, as well as mentioning my name; however here goes..

The first batter on the first pitch hits a triple.

The runner before the next pitch attempts to steal home.

The pitcher steps off of the rubber and THROWS the ball to the catcher.

The second batter interferes with the throw, therefore the batter is out, and the runner returns to third base.

Repeat for the third and fourth batter resulting in 3 outs on only one pitch.

Repeat as necessary for the number of innings.

KUDOS to Tim H. for finding way of having zero pitches.
