Look Alike

What number, when multiplied by 29, is the same; accept the addition of the same number at the beginnig and end of the number:

Example: ABC X 29=YABCY
(it doesn't necessarily have to be 3 numbers long)

10 or any power of ten.

You add zero to the end, and you can add zero to the beginning as well without changing the value. :) Otherwise, I don't know. I ran a program that checked for such a number and it went to 9 million and couldn't find one.

And you have to multiply it by 29 so I don't see how you could get a zero in front of it

I don't know how you'd figure out something like this w/o writing a program to do it.. perhaps you could come up with some equations for all the rules..

regardless...
ABC * 29 = YABCY
52,631,579 * 29 = 1,526,315,791 (11526315791 1)

It's the only number between 1 and a billion that works..

52631579 is the answer,

in fact it is a nice question if somebody can prove that this is the only number that has this property.

Another nice number is:
52631578942152631579

try to multiply by 29 and see the difference ;)

Hint: The trick is long divisions by 19.

Ok, let me do the multiplication for you:

52631578942152631579*29=

526315789321526315791

I agree. You'd almost certainly need a program, and even then, to write one in a common language to handle up to a billion, that's asking a lot.

In any case, you were asking a question that is much more than I think the average person would be able to inquire about. Poor choice.

um.. bas..

52631578942152631579
* 29
-----------------------
=1526315789322426315791

That middle part in there does not match..

either that or my windows calculator is broken..

You are right euclid's brother,

i guess it was late at nigth.

I meant the following number:

526315789421052631579*29 =
15263157893210526315791

However, i insist strongly that this problem can be solved without computer aid. In fact it is only lucky that the solution is such a small number, it could equally likely have been a 17 digit number, in which case a computer aid would take weeks to find it, while a smart person has it within minutes.

PS. I am not a smart person, it took me about an hour :P

lol, it still doesn't match... XD COPY AND PASTE MY FRIEND

:D it is 10101

10101*29=292929
infact every 2 digit number (29,74,99) satisfies this answer

Of course it doesn't match, the 4 becomes a 3, but it is still a nice number, that's what i meant.
