What is it?

John and James were talking to each other.
"Confound it!" says John, "My friend, Pablo, you know the one who works at A-1 Auto Repair, he says that there is an object in the world, which has the letters P, R, N, D, and then the numbers 2 and 1 on it . According to him, P,R,N, and D are all abbreviations of individual words, and this mysterious object is actually not so mysterious at all. He says we touch it every day multiple times. I have no idea what it is."
James replied, "I think I know what it is. It is ---------------

Lazy People... i havent touched them in years.... most cars/trucks around here are manual (stick shift for the yanks)and manual is sooo much safer.
