Wrong date?

Nero and Gregor have been good friends for many years. Nero had some tendency to be absent-minded. In order not to forget his friend Gregor's anniversary (birthday), he had written it down on his handkerchief, so that he would never forget it. Therefore at the january 7 he had bought a nice present for Gregor and decided to come to his party.

Upon arrival he knocked on the door of Gregor's house. Gregor opened the door and Nero shouted: "Happy birthday!" and tried to give Gregor his present. However, Gregor was astonished and mumbled: "but.. it is not my birthday, my anniversary is on the second of april!"

What was written on Nero's handkerchief?

Maybe since Nero is Roman, he used roman numerals to write the date. He wrote IVII, but when he read it, he got the grouping wrong. Instead of IV II (4 2) he got I VII (1 7).

The right answer is the grouping of the roman numbers.

Instead of IV II he got I VII

I agree that the Roman numeral interpretation is correct. i.e. I VII / IV II. If in fact Nero is a Roman why would he be using the AMERICAN standard of date representation: MM/DD ??????

Regards

Ross Fraser (an AUSSIE) we use DD/MM as do the ITALIANS (where Rome is)

He probably wrote april 2, but only bought him it on jan. 7 and didn;t mean to do that.
