An explorer gets caught buy cannibals on an island.
One cannibal tells him:"I'm a powerful sorcerer and i can see into your mind. Now you choose: If tell the truth, we'll hang you on a rope, and if you tell a lie we'll burn you."
What should the explorer say to be saved?

now the serious answer,
I don't want to be eaten alive?
Silence is the only safe answer. Since it's neither the truth or a lie, he's neither hung nor burned.
He could simply say nothing, therefore not lying OR telling the truth.
He should say "I am about to be burnt" therefore if the statement is false he will be burnt, but then the statement will be true which will cause him to be hung,
but then it would be false again and that would cause him to be burnt again.
As you can see it is an impossible answer and then the wizard cant decide whether to burn or hang him?
so he must let him go.
He needs to tell the truth. Then when they go to hang him tell a lie that way he will be set ablaze.
The rope will burn and he can then run away....assuming he doesnt burn to a crispy waffer.

He doesn't SAY anything...the guy can read minds, remember? All he has to think is I want to have dinner with you guys. lol
Simply say "you'll burn me" - when this would become true they'd hang him so it's a lie. When it's a lie they will burn him but then this would be true and they have to hang him...
He would have to say something like "What I am saying right now is a lie." That would be neither true nor false and maybe, maybe they'll let him go.
Btw, saying "I shall be burnt" will not save him. If he said that and were to be let go, then he will have lied and the sorcerer will have broken his promise to burn him. So the sorcerer would probably rather hang him and then burn the body to set things right.
who said that they would decide not to eat him, even if they dont hang him OR burn him.
he could transform into a canibal and burn them all and then burn them and HANG THEM and then eat them since he transformed int a canibal
