isnt new years day a holiday? so technically its not a working day... unless your chinese or from the middle east... i dont think they celebrate new years there...
well i work at blockbuster (open 365 days a year including holidays) so chances of it being a work day are 100 percent, unless your asking what are the chances of it being a work day for me specificly then we delve a bit deep into chance
I dunno. some jobs have annual leave time where they are given a certain amount of days a year to choose when to have their holiday. If i had a job with this system then i would definately NOT go to work on new years, so i guess its down to opion, and what kindf of job you have. And wether you have different beliefs such as Chinese, who celebrate some time later.
To the guy that runs Trick of Mind: I like the concept. I Have the Gadget on Vista. But if this is a latteral thinking problem and the folks who said New Years is a Holiday are right, jump in and say so. It's a clever problem. But if this is a complex math problem involving leapyears and probablities and such, jump in and say so. If the vaugeness is part of the problem, that's fine; but when someone figures it out, ring the bell and let us know. Otherwise we have these debates about what type of problem it is.
the answer is 3/4 because... every century starts 5days later than the previous century. So 1900 started on a monday, 2000 on a saturday, 2100 will start on a friday, 2200 will start on a wednesday and 2300 will start on a monday again. so in every four centuries, three new year's days will be on mon-fri.
unless, of course you don't include bank holidays as working days, in which case it's already been said...

well the chances are 5/7ths But...... they usually get new years day off I'm not sure what the answer is based on the vague wording of the question
Unless you have a job where you work on holidays the chance would be 0 because there's no work on new year's.

Working Day means Monday to Friday right ??
I think this question is deeper than you thought Eric

It will not be a work day for me. I do not expect to live to be 132 years old.
Nobody works on a new years day!!;D;D
I work every holiday. So it is a 100% chance it is a work day!!!!

Last Anonymous Guy ! My name is Rajesh and I am the guy who runs TrickofMind
I am glad to hear that you like the concept. About the question,
Its not lateral Thinking problem other wise it will have a tag saying that.
Its a math problem as the label says "Logic" "Mathemagic" and "Out-of-the-box"
Vagueness is part of the problem ? Shouldn't it be ?
Someone figures it out, ring the bell and let us know.
Nobody has yet. One of the key point of Trickofmind questions is
If someone figures it out THE ANSWER WILL BE CLEAR ENOUGH leaving no chance of argument.
Hope this helps !
the answer is 3/4
