I always sit and work out answer before reading the other posts.
I spent ages working out where they met, and then read the end question.

haha... good one... I read the thing 3 times before I caught the last line correclty..
they might not ever meet, i mean 55mph seems like 20 mph over the limit of some city streets and they might accidentally kill someone and have to go to jail!

The car that left from L.A. is closer to L.A. when they met because it wrecked with other cars on the on ramp of Figueroa Ave. It took about 2 1/2 hrs to remove the wreck and debris.
