Miles to go before I sleep

Assume you walk at a speed of three miles an hour. If a two-mile-wide forest has a two-mile trail leading directly through it, how far into the forest can you go in half an hour?

Or is a trick since you're technically not going into the forest if you're on the trail...

1 mile because after you reach the middle you're going out of the forest.

If the forest is 2 miles wide, what if it is only 1 foot in depth and your were walking into the short side. You would be out quickly....

It only tells you how wide the forest is... its not stating how long it is... so hypothetically you can clear the forest in a matter of steps

3 mph @ .5 hours "into" the forest:

3 / .5 = 1.5 miles.

I think everyone's over-thinking this one

not nessarily, it say's how far INTO the forest
the farthest it the forest that you can get is one mile, which is reached in 40 minutes

surely you can only go one step into the forest as anyfuther would mean your heading out of it. As some people are using the play on words angle i thought i would take it a step futher =].

just because you can "walk" at 3 miles an hour, doesn't mean you can't run! *laugh*

I'm betting I could RUN at least(most) a mile INTO the forest before I couldn't run into the forest any more.

too many loopholes!

ONE HALF MILE

After walking a half hour at 3 mph you will be 0.5 miles into the forest
because
the forest is presumably roughly circular and is 2 miles wide at its widest point, through which the 2 mile path runs. You will walk 1.5 miles down the path (3 mph for 0.5 hours) which means you are only a half mile from the other end of the path. In a 2 mile wide forest you can never be deeper into the forest than 1 mile.

ONE HALF MILE

Although you travel 1.5 miles down the path, you are only .5 miles from the other end. In a 2 mile wide forest you can never be more than 1 mile into the forest.

I started thinking 1.5 miles, but I agree that then you are heading out of the forest, if it is round. So you cross the 1 mile point, so at o.5 hours you are half a mile in. We don't have enough information! When/where do we get the answer?

The question doesn't mention the trail at all, it doesn't state that you're actually walking on the trail. It's asking how far you'll go in half an hour. It doesn't even mention whether you'll be walking. The answer could really be anything.

Half way, any farther you would be walking about. no numbers needed it's just basic words that can answer it.

Never made it far, the person got eaten up by a bear. Other wise it would of taken the person half the miles for half the hour.
