Fair Enough

Bill Gates bets Warren Buffet 100 million dollars, that if Buffet gives Bill 200 million dollars, Bill will give 300 million dollars back. Every one knows that Warren has got 62 billion and Bill Gates 58 billion dollars.

Should Buffet make the transaction ? and who is going to gain and by how much ?

Buffet should not make the transaction cause Bill will be up by $100 million.. Cause he is going to get the $200 million and lose the bet on purpose which still puts him up $100 million.

Course Buffet could make the bet and then make it into a tax write off saying he donated it to the Gates Foundation. Dang rich people know all the loopholes.

Im pretty sure they would break even, if first Warren is giving Bill 200 mil, so now WB is down 200 and BG is up 200, but when BG give WB back 300 mil, WB will be up 100 mil overall and BG will be down 100 overall, But then that means that WB lost the bet so he owes BG 100 mil, which means they break even... I think thats right unless im missing something...

No.. Cause the $100 million Bill gives Warren was Warrens in the first place. Bill just gave it back to him for losing the bet. Bill never gives Buffet the $300million so he could lose the bet om purpose. And by losing the bet owes warren $100 million. And since Warren gave bill $200 million Bill still has $100 million of that left.

Buffet loses if he gives money. Gates said he bets 100 mil that if Buffet gives 200 mil he will give back 300 mil. But he doesnt NEED to give back 300 mil, so if buffet does the bet, he gives 200 mil to gates, gates doesnt give the 300 mil back and buffet loses the bet therefor giving the 100 mil as well which means that Gates would gain 300 mil.

they'll break even. buffet gives bill 200, bill gives buffet 300. buffet is up 100, but has to give 100 to bill. break even.

the answer is break even, and don't make the transaction:
1.)warren gives bill $200,000,000.
2.)bill gives warren $300,000,000, losing the $200,000,000 AND another$100,000,000.
3.)bill wins bet,gets $100,000,000.

Here's how i see it:

Warren Bill
=========== ========
1)-$200 mil. +$200 mil.
2)+$300 mil. -$300 mil.
3)-$100 mil.= +$100 mil.=
warren gains a bill gains a
total of $0: total of $0:
warren only gains $100mil. from # 1 & # 2, but he loses that gain from # 3.bill loses $100mil. from # 1 & # 2, but regains it from # 3.
well, there yo go. there's your answer. those of you who said break even and no transaction, congrats.

There are two possible outcomes. If Bill wins the bet by doing what he says, it's a "wash". However, like someone else already said, he doesn't have to give Warren any of his $2M back. He'll lose the bet but he'll end up with $1M easy money (and +probably some bad kharma).

Don't do it Warren!

Warren Gives Bill 2 Mil,
Bill Keeps 2 Mil, loses bet,
Bill Gives Warren 1 Mil, keeps 1 Mil.

Bill 58.001 Bil, Warren 61.999 Bil

Buffet should not make the transaction. Bill Gates will end up getting 300 million dollars from Buffet. This is because Buffet will give Gates 200 million, then Gates will not give Buffet 300 million causing Buffet to lose the bet and have to give Gates 100 million more.

i think it is worded wrong...if it said Bill Gates bets he will give warren buffet 100 million dollars or it could be if Bill Gates bets he wouldn't give buffet 100 million dollars.

Why would Gates give $300M?
that because he loses the bet paying Buffet $100M which will later makes him a winner and recieve $100M...

Fair enough!

Buffet wont make the transaction because it just a waste of time!
