Placing Riddle
For ages an edifice here has been found
It is not a dwelling it is not a fane
A horseman for hundreds of days may ride round
yet the end of the journey he never can attain
Full many a century over it has passed
The might of the storm and of time it defies
Beneath the rainbow of Heaven stands free to the last
In the ocean it dips and soars up the skies
It was not a vain glory bade it erection
It serves as a refuge a shield or protection
Its like on the earth never yet has been known
And yet by man's hand it is fashioned alone
What is this?
Hint: a Fane is a church or temple, and and edifice is a building or structure

The Headless Man's Letter
A headless man had a letter to write;
It was read by a man who had lost his sight.
The dumb repeated it word for word;
And deaf was he who listened and heard.

Double Proposition
In a small town, a person decided to open up a liquor shop, which was right opposite to a church. The church & its congregation started a campaign to block the liquor shop from opening with petitions and prayed daily against his business.
Work progressed. However, when it was almost complete and was about to open a few days later, a strong lightning struck the liquor shop and it was burnt to the ground.
The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, till the liquor owner sued the church authorities on the grounds that the church through its congregation & prayers was ultimately responsible for the destruction of his liquor shop, either through direct or indirect actions or means.
In its reply to the court, the church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection that their prayers were reasons for the act of God.
If you were Judge, How will you decide ?

The Hat Contest
Four men stand in a line, one behind the other, all facing the same direction, like so:
[#1].....[#2].....[#3].....[WALL].....[#4]
There is a wall between #s 3 and 4, so #s 1, 2, & 3 cannot see #4.
#1 can see #s 2 & 3, and #2 can see #3. #s 3 and 4 cannot see anyone else.
The men are all wearing hats. Two of the hats are white and two are black, but the men don't know what color hats they are wearing. However by looking at and listening to one another, they can figure it out. As they do, they will shout out the color of the hat they are wearing.
The first person to shout out his correct hat color will win $100, the second will win $50, and the third will win $25. Shouting out the wrong color will disqualify the person, as will turning around or taking off one's hat or talking to one another.
How much will each person win?

The Printing Press Problem
The printing-presses use large amounts of black ink, which is delivered by tanker and pumped into a horizontal storage tank. This tank has vertical ends and an elliptical cross section, It is known to be able to hold 5000 units of ink plus some extra space to contain a reasonable amount of overfill/expansion.
The longer axis of the ellipse is horizontal and the shorter is vertical, so it is similar cross section to many road tankers. Replacement ink is ordered on a weekly contract, enough ink being ordered to bring the level back up to within 500 units of the nominal full capacity.
The amount of ink remaining in the tank is measured with a dip-stick. However the original, calibrated, dipstick has vanished. The problem then is that there is now no way of accurately knowing how much ink is in the tank, and hence how much to order. A new dipstick is needed, but the original manufacturer has gone out of business.
How can a new and accurately dipstick calibrated be created?
-Cheers

What does this means ?
Sherlock Holmes when trying to solve a mystery says the following:
"There is nothing in which deduction is so necessary as in religion," said he, leaning with his back against the shutters. "It can be built up as an exact science by the reasoner. Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers, our desires, our food, are all really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But this rose is an extra. Its smell and its color are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers."
Till today, I am not able to comprehend this. Can You ?
