Actually he would be afraid of the CATCHER with the ball in his MITT not the UMPIRE.
CAUSE OF THE MAN IN THE MASK. It tells yuu the answer! haha
I think that the man wants to go home but there is a robber, or some kind of criminal there (the man in the mask) so he is afraid of going home.

the man is scared of the man in the mask because the man in the mask is f*** ugly and deserves to be shoot and the man told him this but the man in the mask put a mask on and put out AK-47 and shot down the man so then the man needed to get rushed to the E.R. but luckly managed to survived and the man in the mask then killed another three men when he found out the man was joking then the police led him for a 8 hour police chace and when they finally cornered him he nearly drowned him self in petrol and set himself a-light and died
and finally the man is let out of hospital and he dosnt know if the man in the mask is dead or still f*** ugly

The man who wants to go home is the runner on third base. The man in the mask is the catcher, and the runner is afraid the catcher will put him out when he tries to steal home.
