The cold war. 8 people are the worlds biggest leaders. They have to decide wether to launch nukes or not that could blow up the entire world 50 times over. That would definety affect millions.

This may be stupid, but isn't seven seconds the amount of time when a child is born that he does not know of all the violence and hatred in the world?

G8 summit in 2003

Thousand protest saying that
100,000 people die of hunger
every day. Every seven seconds
a child under 10 dies.

The leaders of the G8 ignore
their pleas.

After many years, the G8 still won't help

Also a 90's song named "Seven Seconds" spoke of the same
prejudices mentioned by Eric.

...and those 8 men are supposed to do what exactly to prevent those 9 kids from dying in the next minute that you, Ragknot, could not or are not willing to do?

The first thing the G8 can do is listen to what the countries have to say, and learn what solutions they propose.

Just as I thought - absolutely nothing that would actually result in saving a single child from starving to death.

Seriously, and let's assume that we all believe this is a real and *serious* problem. Isn't it true that all the "protesters" (we were talking about protesters, not "countries" I thought - not sure where "the countries" came into play but if we're talking about countries with corrupt regimes that let their people die of starvation it's probably another issue completely)... all the "protesters" want is, as you say, to be "listened to". They don't give a damn about kids starving. They just want their voice to be heard - it's all about them. Period. People like this are a big reason that kids starve because 1) *THEY* don't do anything to prevent it, and 2) they give others an excuse for not doing anything.

Also, people that post totally bogus statistics like the above CAUSE KIDS TO STARVE TO DEATH because it gives people that might actually care enough to DO SOMETHING about the problem, even it is just to save a single kid, a reason to dismiss the problem.

Yes, I am accusing YOU, Ragknot, of actively causing children to starve to death...

"...listen to what the countries have to say..." sheesh!
-h

On the other hand, maybe we motivate someone with this dialog (maybe one of us) to get off our butts and save a couple of kids?
