Tom is happy to see that he is connected with everything and everyone in the universe and that he came to this through science and not any written religious dogma.

Tom is thinking how he got stuck in space and is amazed of how complex and fragile life is and how anyone could ever think that life is nothing but a 2D explanation.

He's not really thinking... he's stoned out of his mind that's why he feels that he's floating in space even though he's standing on a book in his room....
