Composition Chemistry

Let's see if you remember your chemistry.....

52g of and unknown substance is dissolved in 142.6 g of water,
the new freezing point of the solution is -2.6 degrees Celsius.
Find the Molecular Mass of the unknown substance and state what it is, well closest to what it is

thats actually grade 11 chem little advanced for grade 8 lol you learn the properties of solids and liquids and gasses in grade 8 and how pie works you wont be using molecular masses until 11 bud

Molecular Mass? who knows.. but the substance is probably sodium chloride (NaCl), better known as salt. The atomic weight of Sodium (Na) is 22.9898 and the atomic weight of Chlorine (Cl) is 35.453.

That's about as much as I know.. lol

The molecular mass is about 260.589, meaning the substance is probably nobelium.

molecular mass is 25 g/mol with sig figs. the closest is magnesium with 24.3 g/mol which is not that far off with the sig figs in play and %error however it is unlikely to find a higher molar mass than the expected theoretical value so it could also be alluminum with 26.96 g/mol. and this is all of course taking the vant hoff factor i = 1.
