It depends on how strong the men are and how fast they work. It could take 1 man to dig a thirty feet deep hole in ten minutes. He could be as strong as 10 oxen & as fast as 20 cheetahs!
You people read too much into it. "Oh, well, it depends on how strong they are and how big their shovels are and what type of terrain they are digging the hole in and whether they know the proper techniques for using a shovel and how deep the hole has to be and whether or not they take a lunch break and how well the men work together and if they have a history of heart disease in their family" its a frigging riddle! everyone knows that that information doesn't matter so stop acting like it does.
Well I'm not sure if this is a trick question, but I'll do my best. I won't think about all this "how strong are they" and crap like that because it is just a riddle. It says "It takes 4 men to dig up a hole in 2 day." I'm assuming "dig up" doesn't have anything to do with it. But the "2 day" could be a trick. It could mean today, meaning in 1 day. So for 1/2 a hole (A hole half the size of the full sized hole it would take 2 men in 1 day or 4 in 2 days.
If the "2 day" was simply a typo then the answer would still be 2 men
For all of those who said 2 men, you are making a few assumptions that aren't in the question.
You are assuming that the whole mentioned is a specific size (which was not stated) and that the second hole is half of that size. These sizes were not mentioned, so you can't make these assumptions.
The question goes back to the riddle that was mentioned above, how can you have half of a hole, it is either a hole, or it isn't a hole.
Therefore the answer would still be 4 men, because half of a hole is still a hole, therefore it takes 4 men to dig a hole in 2 days.
I cannot agree with that. 4 men, which if you assume the properties of a square half-hole, would dig a hole 1 by 1, which you can make into half by turning it into 0.5 by 0.5. so if you are trying to dig a 1 yard by 1 yard hole, then it would end up as 0.5 yard square half-hole. It would take seven people

nevermind. depends on how fast or slow they work. or how tires they get. or one can injure himself. the list goes on...
4 men because half a hole is still a hole in the groud it has nothing to do with how fast or slow or anything welse on that list.
YOU CANT DIG HALF A HOLE!!!!!!!
4 slow workers
It takes four men to dig up half in two days.
how do you dig up a hole?

there is no such thing as half a hole lol

you can't dig half a hole
It needs 3 halve ducks, 6 spiders and the head of a turtle

:)
if it is a trick (2 day /today) or if it is true then the answer is at least 2 men
but if the trick (4 men for man) then the answer is only a man
2
Four.
i am guessing somewhere between one and infinity jk 2 men
2... duh... most of u are idiots...

You can't dig half a hole.
but if you could, it would take two men
two MANLY men
here in canada i would say 6. 2 to dig and 4 to stand around and do nothing
Why are you limiting that to Canada? I could say that with just about anywhere.
I cannot agree with that.
