The Odd Rafting Trip
There are 8 people that need to cross a river on a raft. Only 2 people can be on the raft at a time. There is the Mom, Dad, two sons, two daughters, a policeman, and a criminal. The Mom can't be left alone with any of the sons, for she beats them (its just the rules, go with it), and the Dad can't be left alone with any of the daughters (same reason). The criminal can't be left alone without the officer or else he hurts everyone. Only the Officer, the Mom, and the Dad know how to operate the raft. Get Everyone Across.

anonymous, that is incorrect because you forget that there are 2sons and 2 daughters. In you 3rd statement, "mom & daughter, leave daughter" the second daughter is left alone with the father, who beats her up...
Assuming that the mum and dad dont beat their respective children when in the raft alone, then it would go as follows:
Dad and Mum in raft - Leave mum, dad returns
Dad and first daughter in raft - leave first daughter, dad returns
Dad and second daughter in raft - leave second daughter, dad returns and gets out
Officer and Criminal in raft - both get out, mum gets back in and goes back
Mum and first son in raft - leave first son, mum returns
Mum and second son in raft - leave second son, mum returns
Mum and Dad in raft - both get out.
makes sense to me with thast original assumption OR you could go down the path that neither parent would beat their child in the presence of the officer.. but these logic games rarely follow logic do they..
there is a lot of solutions some of this solution are:
1-officer & criminal, leave criminal and come back
2- officer & daughter,leave daughter and bring the criminal back with him
3- mom&duaghter,leave daughter and come back a alone
*now the tow doughter is crossed the river
4- mom and dad , mom leave and dad back
5-dad and son ,dad leave and son back
6- tow sons ,one son leave and the other back
*now there is 2daugter one son and dad crossed the river
7-officer & criminal,the son back
8-the two sons cross the river
now all of them cross the river
the second solution:
1- two sons ,one back
2-two daugthers ,one back
3- son&daugther, son back
4- mam and dad , son back
5- two sons , one back
6- officer & criminal , son back
7- two sons cross the river
the third solution as a bove but replace sons with daughter
ok so:
the dad goes across with one of the sons but then comes back and gets the other one and then goes back and gets the mom but this time the dad gets out and the mom goes back to get the daughter and then the mom gets out and the daughter goes over to get the other daughter but then one daughter gets out and the other one goes back but she gets out and the police officer and the criminal get in and go across then they get out and the mom gets in and goes and gets the daughter
Kindman, yours wont work because only the Dad, Mum and Officer can work the boat. You cant send 2 daughters or 2 sons.
my solution is correct if u neglect the last condition

notice: the conditons is
1-Only 2 people can be on the raft at a time.
2- the two sons or one of them must not exist with mam without existing dad
3- the two daughters or one of them must not exist with dad without existing mom
4- The criminal can't be left alone without the officer
5-Only the Officer, the Mom, and the Dad know how to operate the raft.
I neglict the 5th condition
becouse if u take this condition there is no solution to puzzle?!
explain my view:
let take it from last:
the last step there is one in the bank of river
1-if he is a son then he's dad must be come back to take him, and hence he left the other and mom will beats him
2-and so if the one in the bank is a daughter
3-but if the criminal is on the bank of river then that mean, the step before that the criminal was with any one except officer
or he was with the officer and it means that one of dad or mom left sons or daughters to bring the officer.
so I neglect the last condition

if change the 2and3 conditons to mom or dad will beat a son or a daughter if he or she a lone (that means if he or she with his brother or her sister then mom or dad not beat him)
then the solution will be
1- officer and criminal , then officer come back
2- officer and son , then officer and criminal back
3-dad and son , then dad back
4-mam and dad , then mom back
5-mom and daughter,then mom and dad back
6-mom and daugter, then mom back
7-mom and dad , then one of them back (let dad)
8-officer and criminal then mom back
9-mom and dad then cross the river
I hope that will obvious the solution in my view
There is a solution that fits all conditions. Too play the flash game, google [Chinese IQ Test]. Good luck guys. It's been around for years.

I have yet to see a correct answer, so I will post what I got (meets all requirements, although may have used more steps than necessary):
1 Officer takes criminal to other side
2 Officer leaves criminal, comes back
3 Officer picks up son, takes son across
4 Officer picks criminal back up, leaves son and returns
5 Dad takes other son across, and returns alone
6 Mom takes Dad across, leaves Dad and returns
7 Officer takes criminal back across, Dad returns
8 Mom takes Dad across, Mom returns
9 Mom takes daughter across
10 Officer takes criminal back across
11 Officer picks up daughter, goes to other side (criminal is now alone on original side)
12 Officer returns, picks up criminal, and goes back to other side

I don't think ANYONE got this right as the Criminal CAN'T BE LEFT ALONE! I know, conditions state that the reason is he'll hurt everyone and there's nobody on the other side when he's left alone ... but, he's alone and could ESCAPE!

phail! pete, if both mom and dad cross, and the dad returns, that man will fuck up a daughter or 2..according to the rules.
if it makes you happier, the criminal is chained up, and can only get so far (those leg chains that make you take half inch steps)
