1997 was a PRIME year

1997 was a PRIME year....

1997 is the 302nd prime number, and:
- 1997 (prime)
- 1 997 (a unit and a prime)
- 19 97 (two more primes)
199 7 (two more primes)
1997 - (still prime)

So, when is the NEXT year with this property?

But 3137 isn't the 302nd prime :)

I'm not following... the year must meet all of the credentials AND be the 302nd prime number? in that case... there are no solutions?

So 2311 can't do it either, as it's not the 302nd prime :)

the fact that 1997 is the 302nd prime # is irrelevant. if i am wrong, then this question is completely worthless...

I was joking.

But... 231 = 3 * 7 * 11... how can 2311 work?

The 302nd prime is 1997, there can't be another 302nd one.

One is technically not a prime, but this puzzle is breaking a four digit number into 7 parts.

part 1 1997
part 2 1
part 3 997
part 4 19
part 5 97
part 6 199
part 7 7

So the question is what is the next year. where none of the parts are prime... (and lets not let one sneak in there again.)

This is not my puzzle, but I admire the guy, so I am giving a pass on the ONE.

Good point. 3 isn't a unit either. You tricked us.

4444

or 4224. Depending on what you meant by "none of the parts".

Ok...

Before this gives someone a headache.

Cry Wolf was right one the very first post.

3137 is correct. Yes, it has a one in it, but the second position (standing alone) is not one of the seven parts.

(except it is still not the 302nd prime... LOL) Good job Cry Wolf

Oh and I see where I said "where none of the parts are prime".

What a goof, of course it should have said ALL the parts are prime.

But the 3 isn't in the same position as the unit :)

..didn't think you meant none. I thought you meant no combination was a prime. If number is ABCD, the all parts were ABCD, A BCD, AB CD, ABC D, A B C D, A BC D, A B CD, AB C D for the 4444 answer, and ABCD, A BCD, AB CD, ABC D for the 4224 answer.

Of course I knew Cry Wolf got the intended answer in the first post. But, later I erroneously thought that I'd found a smaller answer.

My 4444 answer should have been 1444, and my 4224 answer should have been 1214.

Ive never seen a post where the first comment was correct and the comments kept going and going like this.

I suppose 3137 wasn't that obviously correct.

Hi Cry Wolf. My congratz too. I know it takes quite a lot of fairly clever trial and error to get that answer.

I'm glad the you like my "...badly". That took a while to think up.

My normal services haven't resumed yet. A friend from the states is staying with me for a few days, so my birthday has now progressed through a birthday weekend and is on it's way to becoming a birthday week.

Hi ionutz, they're mainly for fun (except my serious, but wrong 2311). I was deliberately misunderstanding one of Ragknot's replies.
