First Odd Number in an Alphabetical list

Each number from 1 to 10^10 is written out in formal English (e.g. , "two hundred eleven", "one thousand forty-two") and then listed in alphabetical order (as in a dictionary, where spaces and hyphens are ignored).

What's the first odd number in the list?

Well "Billion" comes to mind, but it seems it should have a number first.
What about "a billion"?

Maybe Eight?

One of the examples in the question is "one thousand..." not "a thousand...". So, for consistency shouldn't "a billion" be "one billion"?
Ragknot's "eight" is not odd as required.
I nominate fifteen.

The first word in the alphabetical name of a number does not determine whether it even or odd.

First Odd Number in Alphabetical list

look at all numbers with unique names i.e. that don't start with a name of another number
numbers above 99 start with 1-10 e.g. one hundred, two thousand, three billion

1-10
one,two,three,four,five,six,seven,eight,nine,ten

11-20
eleven,twelve,thirteen,fourteen,fifteen,sixteen,seventeen,eighteen,nineteen,twenty

30,40,50,60,70,80,90
thirty,forty,fifty,sixty,seventy,eighty,ninety

eight is alphabetically lowest, so we want to use it for our starting digits

we need to now select the odd ending.

candidates:five, eleven
eleven is two digits so compare to eighty five. eighty five is alphabetically lower.

Answer:

8,888,888,885
