Uses of Fuses
You are presented with two fuses (lengths of string), each of which will burn for exactly one minute, but not uniformly along its length.
How can you use them to measure 45 seconds?

1st post!!!
Take the first fuse and light both ends. At the same time, light one end of fuse 2. Exactly when the two burning ends of fuse 1 meet (which will be after 30 seconds), light the other end (the non-burning end) of fuse 2. When the two burning ends of fuse 2 meet, you have a total of 45 seconds.
I'd take a fuse and burn it for 15 seconds, then put it out.
Next time it will burn for 45 seconds.
Ragknot ... not the intended solution ... but a very cool answer! made me chuckle!

Hi Zaux. You'll find Ragknot is a master of dry humour.
Just a kick post as I notice some are only viewable when writing a comment.
Torsionwire ... you got it man!

Hi Zaux. I assume that you are deleting some of your own messages. If you tick the "Remove forever? (It can't be undone.)" checkbox, it'll completely remove the comment.
Zaux, I've just noticed, you don't seem to have a full blogger account. Aren't you logging in with a gmail account?
Why do you need two fuses? Take one, fold it in half, then in half again. Pinch one of the folds that is not near the lose ends and hold it. Straighten it back out and light where you have it pinced (let go when you light it so you don't get burned.)
It'll burn one direction for 15 seconds and the other for 45 seconds.
EB, the fuses don't burn at a uniform rate.
Last post was stuck, so I'm kicking it.
Cant you just do this:
Burn the half of the 1st fuse, or cut it, then burn the half of the half.
Then burn the 2 fuses at the same time, and when the 1st fuse finished put out the 2nd fuse, which when you burn it would give you 45 seconds.
