Bus 1 21.00
bus 2 21.00
Bus 3 ======= 16.00
Bus 4 21.00
Bus 5 21.00
total 84.00
average 20.00
let a,b,c,d,e be the numbers of passengers in each bus.
Average A = (a+b+c+d+e)/5 = (84+c)/5
But c = A - 4, so A = (84 + a - 4)/5
=> A = 16 + A/5 => A = 20 => c = 16
So the average is 20, and the middle holds 16. Cannot say much about the distribution of passengers in the other four buses.

T=total
T/5=average
Middle bus=T/5-4
84+(T/5-4)=T
80+1/5*T=T
80=4/5*T
T=5/4*80
T=100
T/5-4=100/5-4=16
Answer:16

Did anybody yet posted the right answer?
My calculation says the answer is 15 passengers in the middle bus.
Let the middle bus have x people.
So (84+x)/5= x+4
x=16.
So total number of passengers are 84+16= 100
However, it could be that out of 16 people, 1 be driver so number of passengers in middle bus are 15 or 16, whatever u wanna take.
Knightmare. "coises" is "curses" with a Brooklyn accent.
SpArKo. Cam did it. 15 passengers is the answer.
