Summer Camp

It's time for summer camp in Puzzlaria. Since the campers are suppose to start arriving tomorrow, a few of the counselors are looking over the list.

"Edwards, Smith, and Kline should arrive tomorrow," says one of the counselors. Not in a particular order, the first names of those three are Jin, Ross, and Curtis.

"I think Jin's last name is Edwards," says one of the camp staff.

"No, that's wrong," offered another. "I'll give you some hints. Smith is a year older than Ross, Curtis is older than Smith, and Edwards is the oldest of the three."

This is the fifth year these three kids have attended Puzzlaria's Summer Camp. Ross has been coming since he was seven.

What are the first and last names of the campers? ... and their ages?

If Smith is older than Ross and Curtis is older than Smith then it must be

Ross _, _ Smith, Curtis _

Edwards is oldest so it's

Ross _, _ Smith, Curtis Edwards

Allocate first and last names to the remaining spaces we get

Ross Kline, Jin Smith, Curtis Edwards

Ross started at 7, so five years later he's 11
Jin is one year older, so she's 12
Curtis being older is 13+

Hmmm,

Ross attending since he was 7

1st year = 7
2nd year = 8
3rd year = 9
4th year = 10
5th year (this one) = 11

Smith is a year older than Ross, so 12

Edwards is oldest so > 12 (13+)

Sorry, I can't see it, unless the wording means something different to the way we interpret it over here ...

Eketahuna ...
sorry .. you are right.
The book wrongly interepreted:
7-8 as one year,
8-9 as year 2
9-10 as year three
10-11 as year four
and
11-12 as year five
... but really when 8 years old he at his second camp
