## Ageless Logic

Posted by JG on June 8, 2011 – 4:38 pm

Not wanting to be embarrassed by revealing her age on her birthday, Grandma instead told the grandkids that if they multiplied her age in 5 years by 5, then multiplied her age in 6 years by 6, and added the two totals together, they would get a number that is 12 times her current age. When she saw the large wax forest fire atop her birthday cake, Grandma knew they had figured it out. How old is she?

2. 2. Chris Said：

I agree. 61 years old.

3. 3. Knightmare Said：

look…i did math?

(x+5)5 + (x+6)6=x12
(x5+25) + (x6+36)=x12
x11 + 61=x12
61=x

4. 4. Cory Said：

61!

5. 5. John24 Said：

Agreed 61 years old. Same math as Knightmare.

6. 6. Joey Said：

cory, i don’t believe the answer is 61!. that would be about 5.0758021387722479880085681217663e83. just kidding, i know you were just excited.

12. 12. Frostee Said：

oh, i just did:
5×5 = 25
6×6 = 36
25+36 = 61

13. 13. Chris Said：

Hi Frostee. As far as I can see, there is no logic to what you did.

So far, Knightmare is the only person who has given a logical explanation, although he forgot to state that x is grandma’s age.
