An Unoriginal Copy

Posted by Karl Sharman on May 19, 2011 – 11:32 am

How quickly can you find out what is unusual about this paragraph? It looks so ordinary that you would think that nothing was wrong with it at all and, in fact, nothing is. But it is unusual. Why? If you study it and think about it you may find out, but I am not going to assist you in any way. You must do it without coaching. No doubt, if you work at it for long, it will dawn on you. Who knows? Go to work and try your skill. Par is about half an hour.

It does not contain the letter E.

Damn, John24 got there first, I agree with the distinct lack of Es.

By the way, ‘e’ is the most common letter in the English language. It is used about 13 pecent, or once every 7.7 letters. This post contains a total of 136 letters, 22 being e. That’s 16 percent!

Try the book Gadsby by Ernest Wright.

  5. 5. Rolly Said:

letter “e” is not use in this paragraph.

    …and something else.

on the keyboard ‘e’ is not on the “home row”. nor is some other more common letters. why,you ask? because in the old days they found that people could type too fast on their typewriters and make them jam up. so they re-arranged the letters to slow people down. and even today (when we don’t have to worry about jam up problems) we are stuck with this layout cause “that’s just the way it is”.

nice to see you back Karl…Chris was trying to make me do math!

How long did you guys take to work it out? Be honest! Took me about 20 minutes after looking for repeated words etc.

I have a programmable keyboard by Stealth, and after seeing Knightmare’s post 6, I reset the keyboard into alphabetical order, top left to bottom right.

It took 4 mins 18 seconds to type the above 2 paragraphs! Keyboard returned to normal, thankfully!

It took me one read of the paragraph and about 30 seconds to verify my thought.

It is however missing some other letters of the alphabet…J, V, X, and Z

Easy post. As soon as I read the first sentence I knew what it was. Its really not that hard.
