Flags, ropes, roofs - oh my!

This is a riddle of two flags on flagpoles on houseroofs
You have a rope to assist you
You are only human so there're no poofs
You can't tie the rope on flage poles and pull across
Because then you would surely fall
You can't reach across roofs
Because you're just not that tall
You can't swing on the rope
Because then you will meet your death
You can't be on the ground
Because then you will be in enemy's grasp
If you can make a road
Then you'll cross without a yelp
Mind that glue gun in your pocket
Because it will come to help
Oh and with infinite amount of rope
How would you get to the other flag?
But don't worry if you have no hope
Because it won't cost you an arm nor leg
Try this, if you can, without your glue.

(sorry, I'm not really a poet)

A flipping fortune

You begin flipping a coin. Each time it comes up heads you double your money . You stop when the coin lands tails up. How much money do you expect to make before you throw a tails? You start with $1. I've no idea where the money is coming from.

Addendum, 10/10/09. The expected value is the same as the average value. To measure it, you would have to observe an infinite number of trials.

You cannot lose in this game. If you threw 10 heads, then a tail, you'd walk away with $1024. The probability of doing that is 1/2048. If you threw a tail on your first flip, you'd still have $1. The probability of doing that is 1/2.

Favorable Bet

Let’s say you get into an quarrel with a friend as to who owns the more expensive canine and decide to settle the spat by checking with the pet store where the two whelps were bought.

Meanwhile you also agree on a bet whereby the person who wins (owns the more expensive one) will give it to the loser. Thereafter you’re both tickled pink with this arrangement, because you’re both thinking, "If I win I’ll lose my hound, but if I lose I get a pricier pooch. And as the chances are obviously equal, the bet’s clearly to my advantage."

The problem is, how can a bet be favorable to both parties?

"Well I was proceeding down Lettsby Avenue," said Police Constable Klepto, "and had just turned around into Silent Mews."

"And what time was this" asked Queen's Counsel Casey,

"Well I don't remember, but the hour hand and the minute hand were exactly on minute divisions of the clock face and the minute hand was exactly 13 minute divisions ahead of the hour hand."

Luckily Dr. Chronos was in the court. What time did he suggest the recorder record?

Time Stop

"Well, in that case, what time is it now?" asked the striker, noting that the wall clock said 2:00 PM.

"Time to be off," replied Chronos, picking up his cuckoo clock from the seat beside him and tucking it under his arm. "It's Thursday, and I have an appointment this afternoon in town. My seven-hour clock stopped this morning and I have to take it to the repair shop. Look it says 1:00 now." With this he swept out, making a timely exit.

Bermuda Triangle

The Journal of the Paranormal reported the following,

It happened on the morning of March 20, 1862 The Ship "Mulan" vanished at sea!

"Mulan" was 50 foot long merchant ship transporting industrial spare parts and headed towards Miami. The night before the incident the crew was relaxing, on the fore deck playing cards, smoking or looking at the Florida coast. The captain was quietly filling his log book in his cabin when he noticed the beams of the lighthouse. But "Mulan" never reached her destination and nobody heard any more from the ship or her crew. Surprisingly no evidence was found until now which could have explained this sudden disappearance.

"Something is not right here, Dr. Watson" said Sherlock Holmes, "Think !"

The Magic Trick !

I was in Disneyland last weekend, and came across this Magician.

"I had on the stage," the magician's story went, "a small iron box with a handle on top. I invite a strong man to step forth. In response an Arab of medium height but sturdily built, a sort of local Hercules, came up. He walked up cheer-fully, grinning slyly the while, and stopped opposite me.

"Are you strong? " I asked, looking at him from tip to toe.
"Yes," said he.
"Are you sure you will always be strong?"
"Certainly," came the answer.
"You are Wrong" I said "In the twinkling of an eye I can rob you of your strength and you will grow as weak as a child"
"The Arab gave a disbelieving grin"
"Come here," I said, "and lift up this box."
The Arab bent over, lifted it up and then inquired: "Is that all?"
"You just wait a moment" said I. "Assuming a serious mein, I made a commanding gesture and solemnly uttered:
"You are now weaker than a woman. Lift that once again"

This time the Arab failed to pick it up, no matter how hard he tried. What happened ?

Once in ancient Egypt, an old woman was washing clothes in the Nile while her grandson was playing on the river bank. Suddenly a crocodile leaped out of the river and grabbed the boy between the teeth. The old woman ran towards them shouting, “Leave the child alone, you selfish crocodile”.

Much to her surprise the crocodile looked at her and said, “Selfish? I am hungry and must eat! Would you call me selfish for following the laws of nature?” With no time to wonder at a crocodile talking with his mouth full, the grandmother said, “Then eat me, but leave the child!”

The crocodile would have rather eaten the juicy child than the bony old woman, but feeling obliged by his own words, he replied, “Very well, I will eat you instead of the child if you answer me one simple question correctly. My question is this: "which of you will I eat?”

Odd person out

I was at a party with a friend one evening where he got bored and started keeping track of the number of handshakes made by people. A person was called "odd person" if he made an odd number of handshakes, otherwise he was called "even person".

After some time my bored friend said to me, "Hey, do you know that there are an even number of odd persons?" I replied, "Big deal ! there will be always an even number of odd persons". But still he seemed confused ?

Can you explain in one line , why this is so ?
